Diagnosis first

How to tell your clutch is going
Engine revs climb but the car doesn't accelerate to match (slipping). The pedal engages right at the top of its travel. Gears crunch or won't go in. There's a shudder from standstill or a burnt smell after a hill. Any of these means the clutch should be inspected before it fails completely and leaves you stuck.
What's involved
A clutch replacement means removing the gearbox to get to the clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing. When you need one
In Queensland a safety certificate (what used to be called a roadworthy) is required before you offer a registered light vehicle for sale, when transferring registration to a new owner, and when re-registering a vehicle. Certificates are valid for two months or 2,000 km for private sellers.
